Protecting Personal Data While Using Analytics

NIYO1 min read

Analytics often involves information about customers and employees. Organisations must use this data responsibly, both to comply with the law and to keep people's trust.

Know the rules

Rwanda's law on the protection of personal data and privacy sets requirements for how personal data is collected, stored and processed. Make sure your practices align with it and with any other laws that apply to you.

Collect only what you need

Every extra field you collect is a liability. Ask whether each piece of personal data is truly necessary.

Protect data in analysis

  • Anonymise or pseudonymise data where possible
  • Limit access to those who need it
  • Encrypt sensitive data at rest and in transit

Be transparent

Explain clearly to customers how their data is used and give them ways to ask questions or make requests.

Privacy and analytics can go together. Responsible data practices build trust and reduce risk.
